High-Quality, High-Density Solutions for Research

SynAmps2 is the foundation for quality highdensity recordings. Set apart from the competition, SynAmps2 is the only solution that offers uncompromised high-density data. All of your subsequent analyses are affected by the quality of your original recording, so choose your recording system wisely. Neuroscan has vigorously pursued superior solutions for your research. We have never compromised data quality for quantity of channels, preparation time or cost. Setting the standard for a new era of data accuracy and analysis options, the Neuroscan Revolution Continues.

In 1992, SynAmps was released as the most powerful amplifier in the world. Over 1,300
SynAmps are now in place serving researchers around the globe. Neuroscan is pleased to
announce the SynAmps2, which elevates the research standard for electrophysiological
amplifiers. SynAmps2 continues to use the integrated software programmable approach
that allows for the greatest flexibility in data acquisition. The SCAN software that has
been the heart of the Neuroscan system will continue to serve as the interface for the
SynAmps2 system. SCAN 4.3 has been upgraded to support the 24 bit data stream
of the SynAmps2. The SCAN/SynAmps2 combination will provide the highest quality
of data acquisition.

High-density recordings define the state of the art for EEG and ERP measures and the SynAmps2
is designed to set the new standard for that purpose. SynAmps2 Headbox Units consists of 64 monopolar, 4 bipolar and 2 high level inputs, with sampling rates up to 20,000 Hertz per channel. The accompanying System Unit provides the coordination of up to four Headbox Units. Two System Units can combine for up to 512 monopolar EEG channels (with additional bipolar and high level input channels). Synchronized acquisition of all channels is assured with advanced sigma-delta conversion. Carefully engineered start-up and time locking ensure zero phase error across all channels in the system - even across multiple headboxes. All channels use dedicated high quality 24 bit Analog to Digital chips to process the data. The data is then passed to the SCAN computer via a USB 2.0 interface.

The SynAmps2/SCAN combination allows for advanced recording capabilities. Real-time
data processing is not only feasible, but practical. On-line digital signal processing allows
for multiple averages to be built, topographical mapping in both time and frequency
domains, re-montaging of the data and artifact reduction for EKG and EOG artifact
simultaneously, including the reference channel(s). SynAmps2 also incorporates a
multi channel impedance meter that allows you to view the impedance on all channels
simultaneously. A real time spectrum analyzer is also built in, allowing you to determine
optimal placement in real world settings.

SYSTEM APPLICATIONS
In addition to the digital USB output, SynAmps2/SCAN combination provides access to the digital data stream via TCPIP protocol, permitting inter-connection with customized acquisition or feedback software. SynAmps2 has been designed to be compatible with all types of recording environments, including research, clinical and surgical settings.
Use in the MRI is also possible via the MagLink system. Its compact design and vast
flexibility make SynAmps2 the perfect choice for almost all applications.

TECHNOLOGY CONSIDERATIONS
At Neuroscan, we truly do listen to our customers and respond to their needs.
SynAmps2 has been engineered utilizing the absolute latest technologies to deliver to you
a product that will exceed the requirements of your most demanding protocols. In order
to efficiently utilize all the power of the SynAmps2, a properly matched computer
system must be utilized. Cutting edge computers incorporating such advanced
features as Hyper Threading and USB 2.0 are required. Please consult the SynAmps2
technical specification sheet or speak with a Neuroscan sales representative for details
and/or recommendations.

SynAmps2 systems cannot be combined with the original SynAmps systems.

Advanced Design Features

Headbox based amplification - Analog signals, whether
buffered or not, are susceptible to noise. With SynAmps2,
signals are amplified and digitized right at the patient side,
providing a digital signal transmission path and providing
the very best signal integrity.

70 Channel headbox units – Allows you to use ALL of
your channels. SynAmps2 offers two external auxiliary and four
bipolar inputs in addition to the standard 64 monopolar channels
per headbox. Bipolar channels do not need to be converted to
monopolar to utilize the full required montage.

Check electrode impedances right at the headbox
Electrode impedances are checked against a user-selectable
threshold and the results are instantly available at the headbox.

Up to 256 EEG channels on a single small system
unit
- A single system unit will handle up to four headboxes,
creating a 256 channel system in about one quarter the space
of the original SynAmps unit. Combine two system units to
create a 512 EEG channel super-high density system.

Standard Windows computer and USB 2.0 interface
Plug and play operation makes connection and setup easy and
fast. No proprietary analog to digital, PCI or data interface
cards need to be installed, complicating the system. The
industry standard USB 2.0 interface will allow you to easily
move your Neuroscan system to another PC when you choose to.

Quik-Caps from Neuromedical Supplies connect
directly
- Conversion (EBA) cables are no longer required
for cap connection. Neuromedical Supplies Quik-Caps connect
directly to the quick-disconnect high-density connector on
each headbox for no-problem patient setup. Touch Proof
connections for each channel are also provided.

For use with SynAmps2, we recommend Quik-Cap and Quik-Gel
from Neuromedical Supplies.

Unparalleled Technical Specifications

24-Bit data conversion – Even within all the excellent high-bit count analog to digital
A/D) converters currently on the market, we’ve specially selected the quietest product
available for use in the new SynAmps2, delivering the best signals with the greatest
dynamic range possible. You demand clean, high-resolution data and we deliver it. Data
from the SynAmps2 also flows seamlessly through to the new 32-bit version of Scan.

10G Ohm input impedance – The very best in instrumentation amplifier technology is
used to ensure that your signals are faithfully recorded.

External (auxiliary) sensors require no external power - Sensors can be powered from the headbox, up to +/-10V at 100mA. This enables use of strain gauges and a wide range of input devices where the output is time locked to the acquired data.

Your choice of reference methods - Choose the standard dedicated reference pin, or use the virtual reference mode which allows you to choose any channel in the headbox
as your reference. Of course, as always, SCAN software will allow you to re-reference your data any way you would like after acquisition.

Bandwidth and acquisition rates for the studies you want to runSynAmps2 offers the capability to go from DC to ABR in one instrument. If extra bandwidth and higher
acquisition rates are required, SynAmps2 should be your device of choice. With SynAmps2 you will never wonder if part of the signal you needed for source or other analysis is above the bandwidth of your data collection device.

Advanced Impedance Technology - AIT enables the use of advanced impedance modeling techniques and allows you to obtain impedance of the reference electrode in addition to the typical recording channels.

Unique Integrated System Functionality

Built-in compatibility with other Neuroscan products - The seamless system integration that you’ve come to expect from Neuroscan continues with SynAmps2. A totally integrated system including amplifier, data acquisition, stimulus generation, data analysis, and source analysis means that you spend your time doing research, not putting systems together.

Backwards compatibility with your existing STIM, STIM2 or other stimulus generation programs - SynAmps2 uses the same trigger connector that the original SynAmps and NuAmps use, so there is no need to modify your existing stimulus protocols.

MagLink CompatibilitySynAmps2 was designed with the difficulties of recording in the MRI in mind. Specific engineering considerations were built in to the system to provide
the best possible recordings in the MRI.

Advanced De-blocking Circuitry - Allows for recording of TMS and other high intensity
stimuli, maximizing the data integrity.

Integrated Power Supply – In addition to powering the SynAmps2, the power unit will
allow you to power up to 4 additional devices, ensuring a common ground is used in all
of your patient connected equipment.
